Physico-chemical and biological interaction between three bacteria (Ralstonia, Syncechocystis, E.coli) and five nanoparticles (Fe2O3, TiO2, CeO2, ZnO et fullerènes) will be studied. The dispersion state of the nanoparticles before contact will be controlled (surface charge modification and/or organic molecules adsorption). The chemical interaction will be followed at the atomic scale through XAS and Mossbauer experiments . The localization of the nanoparticles after exposure will be measured at the local scale with TEM, Small Angle X-ray Scattering, light scattering and confocal microsopy. From the biological point of view, the cytotoxicity, the genotoxicity and the nanoparticles influence on the three bacteria metabolism will be assessed by survival tests, proteomic analysis and genomic analysis. The central goal of the project is to establish an in situ relationship between the properties of the nanoparticles and their biological impact.
